Should You Play the Original Bioshock or Bioshock Remastered?
Your choice may depend on the kind of gamer you are, but Bioshock Remastered is easily the best option. The changes to the remaster are not significant in comparison to the original game, but this is one of those cases where the remaster merely offers a slightly better version of an already great game. Thus, if you’re a first-timer, you’d obviously lean more toward the better version. In the case of Bioshock, the remastered version offers improved graphics and textures, a director’s commentary with Ken Levine, and a concept art gallery. The latter two are cool features if you’re into the behind-the-scenes aspect of games but are little more than nice bonuses. That said, the remaster does run at 60 frames per second on consoles (outside of the Nintendo Switch), whereas the original version runs at 30. As a result, the game will look a lot crisper but will also feel a lot better when you play it. It will perform a lot better, which will make the gameplay even greater than the original version. Of course, if you’re the kind of gamer that can’t really tell the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS, either version should suffice. But with 60 FPS offering a superior experience in terms of visuals and gameplay, having an already great game at a much better frame rate will make the remaster more worthwhile.
